Defying Odds with Determination and Gratitude

At only 18, Clyde Justine Garcia probably went through trials that young people like him will find unimaginable.  Yet, Clyde shows strong and resilient character by never giving up.

Recently, he successfully completed the Technical Vocational Track in Information and Communication Technology, specializing in Computer System Servicing, and obtained a certification from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Beyond his academic achievements, Clyde works part-time as a photographer and graphic designer. His passions extend to sports as well, where he finds joy in swimming, table tennis, and billiards. However, Clyde's journey to reaching this recent milestone was not without its difficulties.

Conquering Severe Hemophilia A

Clyde is now able to self-administer factor concentrate.

Diagnosed with severe Hemophilia A as a child, Clyde has encountered numerous health setbacks. Episodes of bleeding have often kept him away from school, impacting his academic performance and mental well-being. Clyde's battle reached a critical point when he experienced a brain bleed in 2020, a harrowing ordeal that left him with debilitating symptoms and multiple medical interventions. He recalls that his hospital bill reached millions after being confined at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center for several weeks. Thankfully, being a government hospital, PCMC covered a significant portion of the bill, reducing the financial burden on his family.

The following year, he faced another significant setback when his father passed away, causing him anxiety about moving forward without his father's assistance, especially in administering factor concentrates during bleeding episodes.

Despite these challenges, Clyde found support and strength through Hemophilia Advocates-Philippines (HAP), who instilled in him the belief that disability does not define one's ability to excel in the things he’s passionate about. HAP’s continuous support provided Clyde with the resources and confidence to pursue his dreams.

Unwavering Support from Save One Life Foundation

Reflecting on his journey, Clyde is deeply grateful for the financial assistance he received from Save One Life, a non-profit organization based in the US. It enabled him to graduate high school.

"I'm grateful to have been a Save One Life beneficiary since my early school years through senior high. SOL has been instrumental in supporting my academics and family needs, providing essentials like food, clothing, and school supplies," Clyde says.

Looking Ahead with Gratitude and Hope

At the recent World Hemophilia Day celebration, Clyde performed a song dedicated to all the caregivers of the hemophilia community.

Gratitude shines through Clyde's words as he acknowledges the unwavering support of his loving family and the steadfast presence of his friends during his toughest moments. With a resilient spirit and determination undeterred by adversity, Clyde has set his sights on a promising future. He has chosen to pursue a BS Aircraft Maintenance Technology course in Cavite, driven by a passion for aviation and a determination to excel despite his medical condition.

"To all my fellow hemos, I urge you to never stop dreaming. Dream big, exert every effort, and you'll achieve everything you set your mind to."

Clyde Justine Go Garcia's journey is a testament to the power of resilience, gratitude, and unwavering determination in the face of adversity. His story serves as an inspiration to all who face challenges, reminding us that with perseverance and support, anything is possible.
