Diliman, Quezon City – The University of the Philippines Red Cross Youth (UP RCY) hosted a highly successful fundraising event titled "Blood Line: The UP Red Cross Youth Fun Run" at the iconic UP Diliman Academic Oval last June 30. The event, which aimed to support individuals affected by hemophilia in the Philippines, drew participants from various backgrounds, running distances of 2.5 kilometers to 10 kilometers.

Exceeding expectations, the initiative not only raised essential funds but also significantly increased awareness about hemophilia—a genetic disorder that affects the body's ability to control blood clotting. The primary beneficiary of the event, Hemophilia Advocates-Philippines (HAP), expressed immense gratitude for being chosen by UP RCY.

"We did not know anyone from them nor did they know anyone with hemophilia, but because of their diligence they found us," shared HAP President Andrea Trinidad. "We at HAP are deeply grateful to the UP RCY for choosing us to become the beneficiary of this meaningful initiative."

The funds raised are earmarked for HAP's youth empowerment and leadership development programs, which aim to enhance the capabilities of individuals living with hemophilia. Additionally, the proceeds will support HAP’s awareness campaigns and advocacy efforts, ensuring better access to treatment across the country. Beyond financial aid, the fun run provided a platform to foster a community of support and empathy.

"We are overwhelmed with the support we received from the Blood Line runners who participated," remarked HAP President Ms. Trinidad. "More than the financial support it has given us, we are also grateful for the opportunity to spread awareness about hemophilia, especially to the young ones who joined."

The success of "Blood Line: The UP Red Cross Youth Fun Run" not only highlighted the power of community-driven initiatives but also underscored the importance of collective action in addressing health challenges like hemophilia. As awareness continues to grow, efforts to support affected individuals and their families are expected to gain momentum, creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.
